  1. First off, I have the non-wireless version of this product as well as this one. ASUS stinks it up again with another poor product bout to wreck your home theater and not play the files you want played.

My O!play not only doesn’t play the files its supposed to (even with the newest firmware) but it also destroyed my home theater speakers. While playing a file O!play froze and sent a maxed out volume screech of constant static through my home theater system destroying my speakers! The only way to get the O!play to stop was to unplug it.

Additionally playing movies over wireless is awful since the audio doesn’t keep up with the video leaving you with an out of sync film experience.

ASUS Technical support and customer support have been horible. First they refuse to even replace the O!play unit even though they think it is defective. Second they refuse to replace the speakers it destroyed. ASUS has the worst customer service I’ve ever seen…their manager even laughed at my misfortune. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT…YOU MAY END UP LIKE I DID WITH A MALFUNCTIONING UNIIT THAT DESTOYS A $1000 WORTH OF SPEAKERS like my non-wireless version did. So now I have to go to court, file with the better business bureau and my state attorney’s office. O thank you ASUS!

I’ll never buy another ASUS product again.

It is fine device but it seems that the S/PDIF(optical) output doesn’t work with my receiver.

New ASUS O Play Air HDP-R3, I received this player yesterday from Amazon.

    1. My main intention to buy this unit is to play Youtube and other online contents as they said in the website, but with this unit i am unable to play this contents because this features are not there, may they plans to update Firmware later, but not now. I checked ASUS wesite today but till now there is no any Firmware for this unit. I don’t know why they advertise somthing and sell something else.

    2. Unit is Hanging always, most of the time while connecting wirelessly, some times when trying to play a new file. Once the unit hang, i have to take out power from the wall and reconnect, otherwise its not going to work any how.

    2. Wireless connectivity, They used Single band, so you can access 2.4 Ghzs signals only, if your router is 5.0Ghz Your are unable to access wireless connection.

    3. Remote are so big, its look like a “Boat”, combine to WD Live and Brite view remotes its so bad, you have to use both of your hands to operate the remote. Brite view Cinematube remote is very good design and easy to use.

    4. The only difference between Asus O Play HDP-R1 to HDP-R3 is you can use wirelessly (if you have 2.4Ghz Wi-fi signal) and some card readers slots right side of the box, nothing else.

    5. The good thing of ASUS player other than WD Live and Brite view, you can play .DAT, .RMVB, .WMV files, but most of my .WMV files are not playing with this player.

the range of the IR sucks, when i mean range, i dont mean how far, i mean how wide the range/angle is….that you can utilize the remote, would have been nice to get around 180 degrees like any regular ir remote allows….its limited to about 90-100 degrees….

I really wanted to like the Oplay Air but it just does not match it’s description. The install instructions are vague to say the least. I did get it to work without too much trouble though and I could connect to the network and stream files easily. It works great with all my files on the computer except AVI, for some reason it would not play the audio. If all I wanted was to play files off a drive or stream from the computer I would be happy. I could easily convert the AVI files and get over that. However one of the main reasons I wanted the player was to watch content off the internet. According to the description you should be able to watch You Tube out of the box. This was not an option though and after talking to customer service they said to update the firmware. Still did not have an internet option built in but it did see Playon. I have Playon intstalled that I used for another system and while a few of the channels would work after the firmware update Netflix and Hulu still would not work. I’m sending it back.
