I found this headset tinny and unsatisfying when used with earpieces which let in a modicum of sound – something important from a safety standpoint – unless you’re sitting on your living room couch (where you could use real headphones).

I actually prefer the headset which came with the iPhone 3G, and will continue to use that.

Hopefully, Apple’s new headset (coming out soon) will be iPhone compatible with a touch more bass and I’ll try those when they come out.

  2. I purchased the sennheiser MM50 headphones to use with my iPhone. The fit, sound quality and mic all work well, however, the product is unsafe and dangerous to use. I have been Shocked in the ear many times while wearing the headphones… some of the shocks have been so bad that it felt like my ear was bleeding and it left a ringing tone in my ear for several minutes after being shocked. I have always purchased high quality in ear head phones and i have NEVER been shocked. Period. The bottomline is that these headphones should not be sold on the market until Sennheiser is serious about fixing the problem….

i contacted Sennheiser about the defect and here is their answer: ” The shocks are unrelated to the headphone– this is a byproduct of electrostatic discharge…something that happens because of particularly dry environmental conditions. The headphone happens to be the thing closest to your body (if you touch a doorknob first, this won’t likely happen), and the fundamentals of ESD state that it will do so at a point closest to your body. Your body has the capability to build up a large electrostatic charge, especially during the dry winter months.”

  3. Just got these today and I chose them based on the glowing 5-star reviews here. What a mistake, and what a HUGE disappointment these are. Apparently none of the reviewers actually used these buds with an iPhone as a PHONE (they only used them with MP3 players).

First of all, the wires to the earbuds are even thinner (and more fragile) then the original iPhone headset wires (which was why I had to get a new headset in the first place after been mangled up in my pockets every day for a year). Also, the microphone hangs on the left now (compared to iPhone headset – which could actually go either way). Why make a stupid change like that when everyone is used to the microphone being on the right?

The first thing I did was listen to music (like the other reviewers) and with the middle size buds there was NO bass. So, I went to the large buds and the bass came through just fine and I thought I was going to be happy.

Then, I made my first call. The other party could barely hear me although I could hear them OK. And when I tried to talk, because the large buds filled my ear canal, it was like (truly) I had ear plugs in because I could not hear my own voice just bass rumblings in my head (and apparently no signal to the earphone speakers). What an unsettling feeling on a phone call. If you really have to plug your ears to hear music, then the manufacturers really need to feed a signal to the earpieces.

So, the wires are too fragile, the microphone is on the wrong side, you have to plug up your ears to hear any bass, once you do plug up your hears you can’t hear your own voice on a call (unless you take one plug out), and the microphone only works if you hold it next to your lips.

This is junk and on the way back to Amazon.

I don’t think that it’s me but I can’t hear out of these! I can’t hear in the car if I have a window open. I also took them on my jet ski and had my iphone volume all the way up and the music streaming on Pandora was terrible sound quality. I’m glad that were cheap! I still think my apple headphones that came with my iphone are much better. It’s too bad because I love my noise cancelling headphones that I use on the plane from Sennheiser but these buds are worthless. I’ll have to try a more expensive brand. Hey, you get what you pay for! Maybe I’ll try the Shure E2c’s . I really don’t want to spend several hundred dollars on ear buds!
